Modeling of flaring blazars detected in very-high-energy gamma rays

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the high energy astrophysics group of the LUTH laboratory of the Observatoire de Paris.

The high-energy (PHE) team is providing significant contributions to the H.E.S.S. (High Energy Stereoscopic System) array of Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope (IACTs), as well as to the next generation Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA), and is strongly involved in theoretical modeling of hydrodynamic evolution, particle acceleration and radiation mechanisms in active galactic nuclei (AGN).

The successful candidate will join the PHE team to strengthen its scientific activities, and will be involved in the modeling of the emission from flaring AGN detected in very high-energy gamma-rays. She/He will also participate in the analysis of H.E.S.S. and related multiwavelength observations of active galactic nuclei. The candidate is expected to participate in the activities of the laboratory such as workshops, seminars, and to contribute to the tutoring of PhD students and interns.

The duration of the contract is 2 years. Applicants must have a PhD (or be near completion) in Astrophysics/Particle Physics, or a related field. Experience in data analysis in high energy astrophysics (IACTs, Fermi-LAT and X-ray) and strong software development skills will be highly valuable. The appointment is expected to be made during spring of 2020. Starting date and remuneration will be determined on a per-candidate basis.

Interested candidates should submit a CV including a list of publications, a summary of previous research and a statement describing how they plan to get involved in the team (max. 4 pages), and arrange for two letters of recommendation to be provided.
Applications and letters should be sent to both Catherine Boisson (catherine.boisson obspm.fr) and Andreas Zech (andreas.zech obspm.fr).

For further questions and inquiries regarding this position please contact either Catherine Boisson or Andreas Zech.
