Outer
boundary conditions for the generalized harmonic Einstein equations:
stability and accuracy
We
construct and analyze the stability of constraint-preserving and
radiation-controlling boundary conditions for the Einstein equations in
a first-order generalized harmonic formulation. Their numerical
performance with regard to the amount of spurious reflections and the
accuracy of the extracted gravitational radiation is compared with
various different ways of treating the outer boundary, including
spatial compactification.
