Basics of black hole physics

These pages accompany Éric Gourgoulhon's online lectures at the School on Black Holes and Gravitational Waves at the Centre for Strings, Gravitation and Cosmology of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (Chennai, India) on 17-20 January 2022.

The lectures introduce some aspects of black hole physics. The prerequisite is some basic knowledge of general relativity, at the level of an introductory course.
