Sagittarius A* revealed

Maciek Wielgus

Sagittarius A* is a radio source associated with the supermassive black hole in the center of the Milky Way galaxy. It is the primary target of the observations with the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) - a global millimeter wavelength VLBI array achieving
uniquely high angular resolution. The EHT results provided first images of Sagittarius A* resolved at the scale of the black hole’s event horizon, with a full representation of total intensity, linear and circular polarisation. I will discuss what we have learned about gravity, black hole accretion physics, and the role of magnetic fields thanks to the analysis of the EHT observations.
